"Peter Heinrich Beese, 81, died peacefully at home under the loving care of hospice on Nov. 14, 2015, following a five-year battle with bladder cancer. He leaves his loving wife of almost 37 years, Michelle (Dwyer) Beese; daughter, Loraine Jennings of Boulder, Colo.; son, Jeffrey Beese and his wife, Linda of Meridian, Idaho; grandchildren, Derek Beese, Brian Beese, Amber Ruiz (Sydney) and Briana Jennings; one great-grandchild, Chance Beese; brother, Paul Beese (Nati) of Canada; two sisters, Inge Klaft and Renata Feuerstack (Rolf) of Germany; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Peter was born in Rostock, Germany, on Oct. 3, 1934, to Franz and Lotte (Plate) Beese. He spent his early years on the family estate, Gutshaus Passow, near Berlin, Germany, until World War II forced his family from their land. At age 18, Peter immigrated to Toronto, Canada, where he lived for almost 10 years. During this time he had several jobs, including that of a movie theater usher, where he perfected his English and mastered his first phrase from spaghetti westerns: “Bang! Bang! You’re dead!” He also worked for the Canadian government as a traffic control expert.

In 1961, Peter’s love of adventure and passion for ocean exploration brought him to Sausalito, Calif. Using his tool and dye expertise, he joined United Airlines in January 1966. He worked at United for the next 27 years and retired from United Management in February 1993.

Peter met Michelle, the love of his life, in 1977 at an inter-airline party. In the fall of 1978, Michelle’s mother met Peter for the first time and, after seeing the sparkle in their eyes and how happy they made each other, asked Peter, “When are you going to make an honest woman out of my daughter?” Their wedding date was set that night. Peter and Michelle were married on Dec. 16, 1978, in Missoula, Mont. For the next 36 plus years, they were partners in life. Peter was Michelle’s rock and Michelle was Peter’s star.

Peter loved the water and enjoyed sailing, boating and cruising. In fact, he took a “once-in-a-lifetime” Panama Canal cruise three times. He enjoyed life and was known for his kind heart, rich sense of humor and wonderful, gregarious laugh. As his granddaughter Amber said, “He was an amazing man … even his rudeness was lovable.” His charm and sweet smile will forever be missed.

Donations in Peter’s memory can be made to Kaiser Foundation/Hospice, 1680 East Roseville Parkway, Roseville, CA 95661. A celebration of his life is forthcoming."
