McALESTER — Sybil Marie McCowan, 93, died Monday, March 19, 2012, in Bellingham, Wash.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Moles Bayview Chapel in Bellingham. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Moles Farewell Tributes in Bellingham.

Born July 9, 1918, in Plainview, Ark., she was the daughter of John C. and Mary Elizabeth (Garner) Potter. She taught school for 37 years.

She loved her college years and was an avid reader. She moved from Plainview by wagon train to Oklahoma, and then moved to Bellingham 25 years ago to be close to her family.

Survivors include her daughter, Margaret Beckett; son in-law, Fred Beckett; granddaughter, Elizabeth J. Beckett; grandson, Carlos Davis and wife, Bonita; two great-grandchildren, Maya Marie and Benna Blue, and numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben.
