He was the son of the late Carl Holt Sr. and Othilia Holt. The senior Holt was a prominent jeweler in Fresno from 1926 until he retired in 1960. Carl Jr. was better known as “buddy” during his school days. He graduated from Fresno High School in the class of 1943. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy prior to graduation and served for over 3 years during WWII.
At the end of the war he worked in his father’s jewelry store and then attended Fresno State College. After several years he became a partner with his father. During the Korean conflict he was recalled to active duty with the Navy Reserve Training Center in Fresno.
After being discharged from the Navy in 1953 he married Dorothy Ruth Lloyd, from Riverside. He worked for North America Aviation for two years and then worked for The Pacific Telephone Co. Carl and his wife had a daughter Jennifer. He worked for Pacific Telephone in various management position in Northern California until he retired in Dec. 1983. The family lived in Sunnyvale when he retired.
His wife, Dorothy, died in August 1978. He was raised as a 3rd Degree Mason in the Ponderosa Lodge. He later became a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason in San Jose. He remarried in March 1982 to Pacita Ong.
Carl is predeceased by his wife who passed away in 2013. He is survived by his daughter Jennifer of Sacramento; his three step daughters and three step son in laws, Rosemarie and John Li, Ana and Charlie Cheng, Maria and Chau Nguyen. He is also survived by his grandsons Christopher and Brian, and step grandchildren Travis, Stephanie, Judith, Jamie, Jannel, Erika and Kylie.
