He was born Sept. 29, 1923 in St. John, the son of Alfred and Milissa Johnson Caron. He was raised by his grandparents, August and Anice Savage Johnson who had eighteen children of their own. He left school at an early age to work in the family shingle mill. He cut and hauled pulp in Princeton, Allagash, and St. John. He worked for potato farmers and also in construction. In later years he enjoyed landscaping and reading books.
A New Sweden resident for most of his life, he spent the last eight winters with his daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter in Raymond, returning to New Sweden each spring.
He was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church of New Sweden.
He married Lucy E. Hafford on Oct. 26, 1950. He cared for her during her illness with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis until her death on Oct 18, 1985. They had two daughters that died in infancy.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Gary (Carlene) Stevens of Raymond, and Darlene Paul of New York; one son, Alfred C. of Arlington, Texas; three grandchildren; five brothers, Arnold Caron of Old Town, Lawrence Johnson of Augusta, Glenn Johnson of Scarborough, George Johnson and August Johnson; one sister, Anice Johnson of Limestone. He also survived by several special nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors.
He is predeceased by six brothers, Wilfred, David, Guy, Ray, Eldon, and Maurice; and by six sisters, Adina, Evelyn, Evangeline, Edith, Hilda and Alfreda.
In keeping with expressed wishes, there will be no funeral service. Graveside committal will be in the spring at Allagash Cemetery.
