Vivian L. Smulley, 89, of Primrose, passed away Wednesday afternoon at home.
Born in Forestville, she was a daughter of the late Russell A. and Edith Groom Dolbin Frantz.
Vivian was educated in the Forestville and Cass Township schools.
She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Pottsville. She was on the board of the Marion Price Trust Fund for the church and was a member of the auxiliary at the former St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Minersville. She was a strong believer in the power of prayer.
She was employed as a cook at Minersville High School and the former Cass Township High School. She also worked in the local garment industry at Jacob Boltz, Pottsville. During World War II, at the age of 16, she built bomb racks at a plant in Lancaster.
Vivian enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and she also cooked for the local fire companies for their picnics.
She was preceded in death in 1973 by her husband, John; a sister, Gladys Gressick Flaherty, and two brothers, Robert Frantz and Horace Frantz.

She is survived by two sons, George Smulley, Primrose, and John Smulley and his wife, Deborah, Pottsville; two brothers, Russell Frantz and his wife Ann, West West Terrace, and Herbert Frantz and his wife, Edith, Hawaii; a sister, Dorothy Dominguez, Newton, N.J.; a close friend, Lillian Dailey, Minersville; two granddaughters, Crystal Smulley and her companion, Scott Widmann, and Dayna Smulley and her fiance, Josh Walchak; one grandson, John J. Smulley; a great-granddaughter, Macy Smulley; nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Trinity Episcopal Church, Centre Street and Howard Avenue, Pottsville. The Rev. James Rinehart will officiate. Relatives and friends can call at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be in Mount Peace Cemetery, Minersville. The family would prefer that remembrances of Vivian be in the form of contributions to Trinity Episcopal Church, Centre Street and Howard Avenue, Pottsville, PA 17901. Donald J.
