Raymond Cabeceiras, 93, formerly of Friendship St., Fall River, passed away Thursday, April 21st, at Southpointe Rehabilitation Center. He was married to Helen (Ashook) Cabeceiras for 64 years. Born in Fall River and a lifelong resident, he was the son of the late Francisco and Philomena (Motta) Cabeceiras.

Ray joined the US Navy on Dec 7, 1942. As an aviation radioman second class, he served in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign and earned an Air Medal for “Five” flights in a combat area where enemy anti-aircraft fire was expected or where enemy aircraft patrols usually occurred. As a young man, he played semiprofessional soccer for the well-known Ponta Delgada Club team in the old New England Soccer League. He also owned the All American Café on Columbia St. for a number of years in the 1960’s and worked at the Newport Naval Base for many years as a warehouseman. Ray was a wonderful family man. He was devoted to his wife, Helen, daughter, Dr. Karen Sheehan and his son orthodontist Dr. David E. Cabeceiras. In his retirement, he enjoyed being a part of his children’s and grandchildren’s lives, especially swimming at the beach and Sunday family barbeques. With his grandchildren, “Papa” showed an inordinate amount of patience and time for school projects, holiday decorating and any sport that they wanted to try.

His pride and joy are, grandchildren, Stafford Wheeler Sheehan, Alexander Hall Sheehan, Stefanie Lynn Lynch and Jeffrey David Cabeceiras; and great granddaughter, Regan Elizabeth Lynch. One of seven children, Ray was brother of Gilbert Cabeceiras, Elaine Faria and the late Antone and Francis Cabeceiras, Dorothy Arruda and Natalie Robbins. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.

His Funeral Service was held in our Fall River Chapel. His cremation was private
