`Peggy was born in Ullin, IL and graduated from high school in Harrisburg. She graduated from Shurtleff College in 1945 with a music education degree. She came to Wichita in 1945 to be secretary to Dean Duerksen at the University of Wichita. Peggy married James Kerr, they had two daughters, Susan, and Patricia. Jim passed away suddenly in 1970. Peggy went back to work as secretary to the head of the Endowment Association at Wichita State University. In 1976, she married Elbert DeForest who was the foreign representative for Vulcan Chemicals Co. and traveled all over the world. Peggy retired from WSU so that she could travel with him. She has four children, nine grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. Peggy has been a Larksfield Place Community Member since 2010.

Preceded in death by her husbands, James Leslie Kerr, Elbert Murray DeForest; parents, Artie and Chloe Lentz. Survived by her daughters, Susan Billups Rabick of Nebraska City, NE, Patricia Prentice of Austin, TX; stepsons, Elbert L. Deforest of Kansas City, KS, Kenneth W. DeForest of Colorado, Springs, CO; brother, Jack Lentz of San Diego, CA; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren. From the heartfelt parties she hosted to her impeccably coordinated outfits, Peggy did everything with style, grace, and authenticity. We wish to thank the many friends Peggy made throughout her lifetime, from Wichita State University to First Presbyterian Church to Larksfield Place residents and staff. Each of you added color, depth, and richness to her long and happy life. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 16, 2016, at First Presbyterian Church.
