FANNIE L. SAUDER

Mrs. Earnest Sauder, 110 West Sixth Ave., died this morning at Newman Hospital. She had been an Emporia resident since 1938, moving here from Virgil. She was a graduate of Kansas Normal School in 1916 and taught school in Greenwood County for a few years. She was employed at Stanley Jewelers in the 1950's and was the Lyon County Register of Deeds from 1956 to 1958.

A service in the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Chapel will be Friday at 10:30 A.M., conducted by the Rev. George Lespagnard. Burial will be in the German Apostolic Church Cemetery at Lamont. Memorial contributions to the Lyon County Cancer Society may be sent in care of the funeral home.

At the family's request, the coffin will remain closed.

Fannie Lew was born Nov. 3, 1893, in Lamont, the daughter of Jacob and Anna Koenig Lew. She married Earnest Sauder on March 22, 1920, in Emporia. He died in 1937. Survivors include one son, Kenneth Sauder of Las Vega, Nev.; four daughters, Ernestine Shupe of Denver, Harried Hartman of Overland Park, Julia Vieg of Chicago and Janice Wefso of Pebble Beach, Calif.; one brother, John Lew of Van Nuys, Calif.; and eight grandchildren. One brother, William Lew, died earlier.

Mrs. Sauder was a member of the First Christian Church and was active for many years in church organizations. She was a past president of Christian Women's Fellowship and the Business Women's Guild. Other memberships include Parliament Study Club, of which she was a past president. She participated in the Red Cross Volunteer Nurses Aide Corps in the early 1940's.

Mrs. Sauder was the Gazette's Women of the Week on April 6, 1968, when she was elected president of the Fourth District, Kansas Federation of Women's Clubs.
