Obituary from the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, dated Sunday, June 28, 2009, page B2:

Marcus Randolph Clapp, an exceptional husband, father, grandfather, lawyer and friend, lost his long battle with Parkinson's disease on June 5, 2009, in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Randy was born February 11, 1942, in Phoenix, Arizona. He was a graduate of Brophy College Preparatory, Arizona State University and received his law degree from the University of Arizona. In 1968, after completing a clerkship with the Appeals Court in Tucson, Arizona, he showed his pioneering spirit and moved to Anchorage, Alaska, to work for the state's oldest law firm, now known as Hughes Pfiffner Gorski Seedorf & Odsen, LLC. During the formative pipeline years, he moved to Fairbanks to open a branch for the firm, where he served as a managing partner. In 1994 he ventured out to start his own firm which became the prestigious statewide firm now known as Clapp, Peterson, Van Flein, Tiemessen, and Thorsness, LLC . After retirement in December 2003, he relocated to sunny West Palm Beach, Florida. Randy took great pride in calling Alaska home for 35 years. He loved exercising and being active. He often participated in marathons, weightlifting, cycling, cross-country skiing and enjoyed coaching his daughters in basketball and softball. Throughout his life's journey, Randy touched many people (too numerous to mention) with his kind heart and positive attitude. He received many accolades for his accomplishments, some of which were: longtime supporter of the UAF Nanooks, UA Museum, Fairbanks Concert Association, founding board member of the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival, member of the Alaska and Tanana Valley Bar Associations, and induction into the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers. Randy was a former University of Alaska regent and a former member of the Alaska Judicial Council. He is survived by his loving wife, Catherine; his daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and John Pfleeger, and their children, Greta and Gage; his daughter Kara Clapp and her son, Aidan. Additionally, he will be greatly missed by his two older brothers, their families, and all of his relatives and dear friends. Please post your thoughts, reflections and comments on Randy's life on the online guest book as soon as possible so that they may be shared with his family at the burial at sea to be held off the coast of Palm Beach.
Memorials may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research or to Hospice of Palm Beach County.
