Born in Chicago, Illinois, Sherrin Dietz "Maw" Wood was the daughter of Edward and Harriet Dietz. When she was 12 years old, Sherrin and her family moved from Chicago, Illinois, to Little Rock, Arkansas. She graduated from Little Rock's Central High School in 1954. Sherrin married Dale Gilbert Wood on New Year's Eve, 1958. The couple briefly relocated to Nashville Tennessee before finally settling in Florence, Alabama. In the 1970's, she worked as a secretary at Harlan Elementary School and later as the secretary and bookkeeper for W.W. X-Ray.
Mrs. Wood loved her children and helped care for and raise most of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was very involved in community and youth activities such as the Florence Swim Team and Little League concession stand. Sherrin became a member of First United Methodist Church and was always willing to donate her time and money to help people in need. She also served as a volunteer at Florence ECM Hospital for several years and was an active member of the Ladies of the Elks. One of her favorite pastimes was playing bridge. Sherrin will be remembered as a positive role model, and a loving wife and best friend to Dale for almost 50 years.
