Born in St. Louis Missouri, studied mining and metallurgy in Europe. He and co-investor Horace Tabor both struck it rich in Leadville Colorado. Opened a smelting plant in the Argentine district of Kansas City Kansas, that employed 1,000 men. In 1892 he was appointed president of the first Park Board in Kansas City Missouri, known as the father of the parks and boulevard system. Meyer Boulevard is named in his honor. His estate at 45th and Warwick later became the Kansas City Art Institute.
