Valentine Heidenfelder was the son of Johann and Maria Anna Neuf Heidenfelder. Johann and Maria Anna were married May 19th 1856. They had five children, Johann (John Frank), Maria Anna, Valentine, Magdelena (died at 3 months), and Ludwig (1864-1885). Ludwig died at age 20, just 2 years before the family came to America. Valentine's father, Johann, died March 3, 1870, in Harrbach Germany.
Valentine and Johann emigrated to America in 1881. Valentine was on the passenger list of the S.S. De Ruyter which left Antwerp, Belgium and landed in New York on Dec. 9th, 1881. Sometime before 1887, Valentine returned to Germany to bring his widowed mother, his sister Maria, and her two sons, Ludwig and Joseph to America, and specifically Pacific, MO. They departed on the S.S. Weser and arrived in Baltimore on Aug 10th, 1887. Valentine was 28, Maria Anna 59, Maria 30, Ludwig 8 and Joseph 7.5 months old.
Valentine married Annie J. Beste, daughter of Henry Beste, on May 14, 1895 in the city of Pacific, Missouri. He was naturalized that same year. They then had one son, Henry Anton, and 4 daughters: Lauretta (Loretta), Bertha, Mary Agnes, then Barbara.
He was a musician and played with The Regimental Band of Pacific.
He operated a shoemaker and shoe repair business in Pacific from 1887 to 1896. Valentine later moved to Belleville, Il, and also to South St. Louis, operating his shoe business.

Valentine Heidenfelder and Annie Beste were married at the Catholic church Tuesday morning by Rev. Fr. John A. Glingler. Miss Annie Leber acted as bridesmaid and W.A. Mohrbach as groomsman, and a large number of friends of the young couple were in attendance. In the evening the Regimental Band of Pacific serenaded them and being invited in spent a very pleasant evening. The groom is a leading boot and shoe maker of the city and a member of the Regimental band. The bride is from the Southern part of Franklin county and an excellent young lady. They will live in the McHugh house, just south of the railroad station.

However, the 1910 US Census showed Valentine's son Henry, age 14, living on the Hillar farm in Belleville, working as a laborer. The four sisters were living at St. John's Catholic Orphanage of Belleville. Valentine and his wife Annie are not found in the 1910 census. It is understood by descendents that Annie left Valentine and the children.
1911: lived at 101 West Mail in Belleville, IL
In 1920 at age 60, Valentine lived with his son, Henry A., in Belleville, at 304 Mascoutah Ave. Valentine was still listed as married, but no trace of his wife Annie is found. He is listed as a shoemaker, with his own shop.

By 1930, Valentine is 70, and living alone at 123 18th St. in Belleville, IL., still listed as a shoemaker.
Valentine and Annie were divorced and he moved to Chicago in his later years to join his daughter(s). He died May 28th, 1933 in Cook County (Chicago, IL,).
