Macseen Mildred Zimmerman, 83, a resident of The Dalles, Ore., died at the local hospital Jan. 1, 2013.
She was born June 22, 1929, in Spalding, Neb., the oldest of eight children to Albert N. and Grace M. (Mayfield) Sutton. She was raised and educated in Nebraska, graduating from Albion High School in 1948. She served in the US Army from October 1948 as private first class, Woman's Army Corps, until receiving an honorable discharge in February 1950.
She married William Arthur Adamson who preceded her in death in 1961. She married James Zimmerman in 1968.
She worked at Ruth's Petite Beauty Shop for 27 years and in her later years worked part-time as a beautician in The Dalles, and operated her cherry orchard. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. She was in Civil Air Patrol, advanced to Major, and held the post of The Dalles Civil Air Patrol Squadron Commander. She joined Civil Defense and was in the 99er's (a woman's flying club). She received an Aircraft Pilot License and flew her own airplane. She also enjoyed reading books and painted and drew scenic images.
She is survived by her husband James; her daughter, Judith Pointer of Oregon; her grandchild, Caroline Snider of Washington; three brothers, Ronald Sutton, Jack Sutton and Jim Sutton and three sisters, Rosemary, Virginia and Bonnie.
Reading of the rosary will be Jan. 10 at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church with committal to follow at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery. Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Peter's Catholic Church.
