Composer, Keyboardist. A noteworthy member of the Roman school of Baroque Music. Pasquini was born in Massa, Tuscany, Italy. Around 1650 he went to Rome in the service of the Borghese family, for whom he would later become music director, and studied with Antonio Cesti. He was organist at the Oratory of SS. Crocifisso from 1664 to 1685 and at the Church of S. Maria in Aracoeli from 1664 until his death. Although Pasquini wrote a good deal of vocal music, including 17 oratorios, 14 operas and some 50 cantatas (most of them lost), he was best known as an outstanding organ and harpsichord virtuoso. His concerts with his friend Arcangelo Corelli were among the most popular musical events in Rome, and the two went on to join the Arcadian Academy in 1706. He was also celebrated as a teacher and had a strong influence on his greatest student, Domenico Scarlatti.
