Ogdensburg Journal - December 19, 1944
Mrs. Claudia Sayer, Brier Hill, received a telegram from the War Department yesterday notifying her that her son, Pfc Ronald W. Sayer, 23, had died Oct 23 from wounds received three days earlier while fighting on Leyte Island in the Philippines. Another son, Burton, was killed July 7 of this year while fighting on Saipan.

Mrs. Sayer received a telegram from the War Department Nov 20 informing her that her son was seriously wounded. She had received no further word until yesterday.

The youth entered the armed services Sept 22, 1942 and received his basic training at Camp Upton, NJ. He later studied in the ASTP program at Bradley Tech at Troy, Ill and when that program disbanded was sent to Camp White, Ore. and later to Camp Hollis, Calif.

PFC Sayer was born Dec 20, 1921 at Brier Hill, the son of Frank and Claudia Weatherup Sayer. His father passed away in May of this year. He was graduated from local schools and was a student at Cornell university prior to his entrance into the armed forces.

Surviving are his mother, two brothers, Wendell of Massena and Robert at home; and one sister, Miss Iris Sayer, Rochester.
