Mrs. Earl J. (Irene) Reed has received a telegram from the war department informing her that her husband, Pvt Earl J. Reed, had been killed in action Sept 1 in France.

Pvt Reed entered the army Feb 9, 1944 and went to Camp Upton, LI. From there he was sent to Camp Blanding, Fla. where he trained 17 weeks. On July 1 he came home on a furlough of 14 days, returning to Ft George Meade, Md. Between July 24 and 26 he left for overseas duty, arriving first in England and was later sent to France.

Pvt Reed was born in DeKalb July 26, 1924, the son of Earl C and the late Anglina Law Reed. He was one of three children. Pvt Reed attended Edwards school and graduated with the June class of 1942. He was employed at the St. Joseph Lead mines until induction into the army.

Surviving besides his wife and son, Ronald Earl, are his father, Earl C. reed of Pitcairn and two sisters, Seaman 2c Rosalie Reed of Arlington Farms, Va and Lucille Reed of Edwards.
