World War II Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Petty Officer in the Royal Navy. In actions in the Mediterranean Sea, south of Crete, Petty Officer Sephton was a director layer on the HMS Coventry when she went to the assistance of a hospital ship which was being attacked by German dive-bombers. When the enemy engaged the Coventry with machine-gun fire, Petty Officer Sephton was mortally wounded and partially blinded, but stuck to his instruments and carried out his duties until the attack was over. He died of his injuries the following day. For gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross Medal.
