World War II Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Subadar in the 1st Battalion, 7th Gurkha Rifles, Indian Army. At Ninthoukhong, Burma, June 12, 1944, Subadar Lama's Company was attempting to stop a Japanese advance when it came under heavy machinegun and tank fire. With complete disregard for his own safety, he took his rifle, crawled forward and succeeded in bringing down the gun in action within 30 yards of the enemy tanks. Despite a broken wrist with two other serious wounds, he then moved forward and engaged the tank crew who were trying to escape. Not until he had destroyed the danger, did he consent to have his wounds dressed. For most prestigious gallantry he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal by the Viceroy of India, Field Marshal Lord Wavell, at the Red Fort, New Delhi, India, on the October 24, 1944.
