Civil War Union Soldier. He was mustered in as a Corporal in Company C, 3rd New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on May 25, 1861. He was wounded in action at the June 27, 1862 Battle of Gaines Mill, Virginia, and was taken prisoner two days later. He was hospitalized until he was discharged due to disability at the United States Army General Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on February 5, 1863.

He was the husband of Elmira Wiley, and was employed as a shoemaker in Burlington, New Jersey at the time of the Civil War. He moved to Philadelphia, and was was living on West York Street circa 1890.
