Mr. McCormick was the principal of Roosevelt Elementary School when I attended there. I remember him as a nice man.

MAC February 26, 1916 ~ August 29,2011 Loyce L. McCormick, a proud Purple Heart veteran of World War II, died at home in Brentwood at the age of 95 on Monday August 29, 2011. He was an innovative educator for over 30 years in San Leandro, a beloved father, and highly respected friend. He was born in Lula, Oklahoma; graduated from Lula High School in 1935 (varsity basketball - 3 years); received a B.A from East Central State College (Ada, Okla.) in 1939; attended the Univ. of Oklahoma 1939-1940 and completed a Master's Degree in Administrative Education at Stanford University in 1941. Mac spent 4 years (1942-1946) with the 554th Automatic Weapons Battalion, U.S. Army. For 2 years he was attached to the 29th Infantry Division as 1st Lieut. and saw active combat in the invasion of France; Battle of St. Lo and the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Bronze Star by Major General Gerhardt, Division Commander, for meritorious service during the period November 12, 1944 to February 5, 1945. He was also injured by a tank mine and awarded the Purple Heart. After the war, he moved to San Leandro in 1947 and taught veterans in the Adult School in Alameda. He then moved to San Leandro Unified School District as a teacher and Vice Principal at Cleveland School. In 1954, he opened James Madison K-7 School where he remained until 1964. He then transferred to Roosevelt School as Principal and remained until retiring in 1976. He is survived by his wife Beth, the love of his life for 46 years; a son, Robert of Brentwood; a daughter, Marsha of Lodi; a granddaughter, Melanie and four greatgrandchildren, Kyiah, Violet, Eli and Sevhana all of Lodi. He and Beth have resided in Brentwood since 1997. Preceding him in death were his parents, Robert E. and Lydia C. McCormick of Wasco, California; two sisters of Bakersfield, CA, two brotheres of San Leandro and Lafayette and a grandson, Robert L. McCormick of Lodi.
