Mother of Adam Fudge killed.
A terrible accident occurred three miles north and one-half west of Concordia near the Howard Green place, Saturday evening shortly after six o'clock, in which Grandma Fudge, 73 years of age was killed. Watson Fudge, who lives on the Stalling's place about a mile west of where the accident happened was returning home from town and in the spring wagon with him were his wife and two children, his brother, Tom Fudge and his mother, known as Grandma Fudge. Hans Jenson driving a car came up from behind the rig and for some reason or another decided to pass the rig on the wrong side. The road is narrow at this point and there is also a culvert to cross and Jenson pulling too close to the rig struck the rear wheel. The car pushed the spring wagon some distance before it crushed it down and the occupants were hurled in every direction with the exception of Mrs. Fudge who held on to the lines. Grandma Fudge was found in the middle of the road unable to move but the rest of the party escaped with only minor injuries. Howard Green, who was in his yard heard the crash of the accident and rushed over to be of assistance. Grandma Fudge was picked up and put in Mr. Green's Car and taken at once to her home a short distance away. Dr. McDonald and Dr. Doty, of this city, were called and an examination showed that the only apparent injuries were a bruise on her left side and a broken rib. She became unconscious soon after reaching home and passed away at 8:30 o'clock, less than three hours after the accident.
This paper has been informed that Mr. Jenson did everything he could, after the accident happened, to assist in caring for the injured. His wife and children were with him in the car at the time of the accident and it is claimed that he thought he had pulled far enough north to clear the rig -- Concordia News.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the Fairview Church, Rev. Carpenter of Clyde in charge. Interment was made in the Fairview cemetery.
Sarah E. Comer was born at Charleston, W. Virginia, March 14th, 1846, and died at her home 4 1/2 miles northwest of Concordia, November 15, 1919, aged 73 years, 8 months and 1 day.
She was married to J. H. Fudge July 10, 1866, to which union were born nine children -- four sons and five daughters, all of whom are living except two, who died in infancy.
The family moved to Kansas in 1881 and located near Jamestown, where they lived for many years, afterwards moving to Concordia. She was converted at the age of 16 and joined the Baptist Church, where she retained her membership until she was called from the church militant on earth to the church triumphant in Heaven. Her husband preceded her to the spirit world twenty-six years ago.
Besides the seven children she leaves two brothers, seventeen grandchildren to mourn their loss.
