ARTHUR - The Lord lifted up the spirit and soul of Marcia Ann Cornwell on Thursday, December 8, 2005 after several days of sensitive and loving care at Provena Covenant Hospital in Urbana, Illinois. Marcia will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends.

Born the second child of John and Joe Ellen (Ghere) Chancellor on October 24, 1953, she was united in marriage to Stephen Cornwell of Newman on August 6, 1972 at the Arthur United Methodist Church. Family was an important part of Marcia's life and she was blessed and surrounded by her loving family.

Steve and Marcia chose to renew their wedding vows on July 31, 2005 in a commitment to one another and their faith. The union of marriage brought forth the one true joy in Marcia's life and that was the birth of their son, Andrew Duane Cornwell, who, along with Steve, were at her side in the final days and hours. In addition, she is survived by her paternal grandmother, Maggie Jane Chancellor of Arcola; a brother, Bruce A. Chancellor of Arthur; sisters, Vickie (Terry) L. Clark and Valerie (Bill) J. Coleman of Arthur; Cheryl A. Chancellor of Champaign; and sister-in-law, Valerie (the late John) Chancellor of Arthur. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, and a nephew. Aunt Marcia will be the target of laughter and tears among her many nieces and nephews of whom she was so fond and proud. She would be found at many school events to show her support and pride.

After graduation from Arthur High School and attending Eastern Illinois University, Marcia chose to follow her ambitions and encountered her first business experience in ownership of an antique store in Newman, which was followed by the inception of the TLC Ceramic and later The Briar Patch in Arthur. These ventures enhanced her artistic skills in decorating and craft work. She was involved with the Central Illinois Craft Guild and Rockome Gardens for many years and eventually moved her operations to The Red Barn in Tuscola, where she continued to develop and expand her interests in the craft area.

Marcia also led a very active and full life as a member and past president of the Arthur Evening Woman's Club, treasurer of the Arthur Merchant's Committee, involvement in the athletic boosters and Sunday School teacher for many years at the Arthur United Methodist church.

Probably the most important value of life that Marcia portrayed was her willingness to become involved in the lives of those around her. For many years Steve and Marcia extended their household to numerous foster children and took on the burdens that come with the pain and suffering of innocent young children. From this involvement, their family expanded to include Elizabeth Victoria Cornwell Butler and husband Keith of Hernado, Mississippi; Tracy Ann Cornwell Frantz and husband Joe of Charleston; and David Michael Cornwell of Arthur. This involvement did not come without sacrifice and heartbreak but also brought forth joy in the birth of 3 granddaughters and 1 grandson.

In addition to the adopted family, Steve and Marcia were blessed to host two foreign exchange students, Jake DeHaan and Karen Vermons VanWalsum, both of Holland. Marcia and Andrew had the fortunate experience of visiting both in their homeland as well as visiting the burial site of her uncle Bobby Ghere, who was killed in action in World War II.

Marcia, may the Lord lift his face to shine upon you and warmly embrace you in your new home knowing that your memory will carry on for many years with those whom you have touched so gently in your short stay in this earthly life.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, Dec. 12, 2005 at the Arthur United Methodist Church, 128 E. Illinois Street, with the Rev. Michael Mayfield officiating. Burial will follow in the Arthur Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4:00-8:00 PM Sunday at the church. Shrader Funeral Home, 431 S. Vine Street, Arthur, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to the Andrew Cornwell College Fund or the American Cancer Society.
