Dennis E. Getty, 74, of Billings, passed away peacefully Dec. 1, 2012.
Dennis was born at home in Dundee, Mich., on Sep. 16, 1938, to Clyde and Helen Getty. The oldest of three siblings, Dennis spent his younger years in Dundee before his family moved to Curtis, Mich., in the upper Peninsula, where he attended and graduated from Newberry High School. Following graduation, Dennis tried a variety of things before linking his career to his love of aviation when he went to work for United Airlines where he earned numerous awards and promotions over a career spanning more than 40 years. Dennis married the love of his life, Rose Marie Getty, June 1, 1957, in Monroe, Mich., and began a journey together that would last for 52 years.
Dennis was an accomplished outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and hiking. He loved to read and was an avid student whose pursuits included fly tying, early American history and archaeology, among others. Dennis loved cooking with his wife, Rose, and they would spend hours in the kitchen perfecting recipes for their family cookbook. Dennis moved to Billings with Rose in 1984. Although not a native of Montana, they would ever after consider this to be "home." Dennis would retire from United in 2001 and enjoy his life with Rose until her passing in 2009. This loss left a void in his life that is now filled as they are once again together and at peace.
Dennis was preceded in death by Rose, his loving wife of 52 years, and his father.
He is survived by his son, Mark; daughter-in-law, Souther; mother, Helen Braun; and sisters, Charlene Breitner and Paula Laroy.
A private memorial service is to be held celebrating his life followed by interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
