Samuel A. Pond died at his home, 7 East street south, at 1 o'clock this morning, of heart disease.
Mr. Pond, known to thousands as "Dr. Pond," was an old resident of Wisconsin, and had lived in Janesville many years. For years he was a contractor in the United States mail service, being awarded mail routes throughout the west and northwest. He followed this business until his failing health compelled him to retire from active business pursuits. For many years he had heart trouble, and many times had been on the threshold of the door of death.
Mr. Pond was a kind hearted man, and had a large circle of friendship. His home life was especially sunny. He leaves a wife and five children -- Miss Etta Pond, Miss Ada L. Pond, Mrs. Edwin Bailey, William S. and Andrew C. Pond, all of Janesville.
