The Melvin Froke Family taken from the South Clark County South Dakota History 1976

The Melvin Froke Family
Melvin Froke was born in Waterville, Iowa on February 3, 1888, the son of Chris and Bertha Froke. They made their home on a farm until his father passed away in 1903 when they moved to Vienna where he spent the rest of his life. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith and on January 24, 1910 was united in marriage to Mary Fiferlick. They had four children, all four graduated from Vienna High School.
Lester, who is chief engineer at KELO rado and TV station in Sioux Falls; Nina, who for many years was employed by Farm Home until her retirement, and now makes her home in Clear Lake; Arlene, a housewife and homemaker living in Grand Meadow, Minn.; and Margaret, a homemaker living in Clark.
Melvin served his family and community well, having been custodian of the school in Vienna for forty-two years. He continued his work when the new school was built in 1914 until 1952. In 1929 the pupils dedicated their annuals to him with this tribute—"You will usually find Melvin whistling or humming a tune as he goes about the work of keeping our school in tip-top shape. During vacation he is always busy redecorating the interior of the building and keeping the lawn and trees cut and trimmed. The school building has been upheld as a model of cleanliness and neatness and has brought high commendation from every state inspector".
During the time of service at the local school he won the admiration of the many students and teachers who went through the doors. He loved young people and taught them good morals, integrity and honesty, and by example showed them that work, no matter how menial, can be rewarding when you do your very best.
Melvin passed away February 29, 1960 leaving a host of friends.
