Mrs. Elihu Stewart.

Mrs. Elihu Stewart passed away at her home in this city, Thursday evening, at 11:50, April 11, 1918, aged 62 years, 5 months and 29 days. She had been in failing health for some time and for a week or more family and friends felt that the end was near[.] Her death ended a life of usefulness and devotion to home ties. A great love for her children was the crowning glory of her life and they in turn were ever mindful of her welfare.

Her maiden name was Mary Eleanor Francis, the oldest child of Joseph and Ire [sic] Francis. She was born near LaHarpe, Hancock county, October 12, 1855. On the 5th of March, 1874 she was married to Elihu Stewart, who survives with six children, viz.: Gertie, Charles and Joe, all of this city; Frank, of Monmouth; Robert, of Auburn, Nebraska, and Eugene, of Davenport, Iowa. One child died in infancy.

Of her father's family, four survive, two brothers and two sisters, J. W. Francis, of this city; Mrs. S. E. Gaumer, of Galesburg; Mrs. J. L. Kitch, of Pierceville, Kansas, and Lewis Francis, somewhere in the west.

Mrs. Stewart united with the church on Easter Sunday, 1889 and lived a good Christian life. A legion of friends mourn [sic] with the family.

The funeral was held at the LaHarpe Union church, Sunday afternoon, Rev. J. Yemm officiating. Interment in LaHarpe cemetery.
