Clara Belle Staggs
(December 29, 1918 - August 30, 2014)
Clara Belle Townley Staggs passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2014 in Malvern Nursing Home at the age of 95. She was born on December 29, 1918 in the Cooper community to William Robert Alberton Townley and Nancy Melissa (Collie) Townley who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Dempsey Townley, Collie Townley (Dona), Earle Townley (Lois), Merle Townley (Vernice) and by her sisters Mary Elizabeth Townley Felty (Van) and Mattie Lou Townley Davis (Johnny Ray).
Clara Belle Townley married Lemuel Madison “Peck” Staggs on February 20, 1937 in the home of the minister at First Baptist Church in Malvern and they shared 69 wonderful years of marriage before his death on December 1, 2006. Mr. Staggs was a foreman for a large construction company and they traveled all over the country until he retired in 1974. They left behind many hard working days but they carried with them the memories of so many friends they had made and considered as “family.” After his retirement they moved back to Malvern and became faithful members of Third Baptist Church.

Mrs. Staggs loved her family and enjoyed traveling. She was a wonderful cook, seamstress, and crocheted beautifully. Friends and family were often blessed with some good home cooking or with something she had crocheted. She always loved to have people come to visit especially friends and family and she always had something “sweet” to offer you. She loved all children and always loved to have them around. In her younger years she taught children’s Sunday school classes.

Mrs. Staggs is survived by her sisters-in-law Mary Guyer of Weirsdale, Florida, Henrietta Johnson of Ventura, California and her brother-in-law Jack Staggs of Huntsville, Texas. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and special friends Bill and Ann Golding, A.J. and Christine Harrison, and W. J. and Jean Brumley of Malvern and Alford (Poncho) Watts of Crossett.

We want to extend special thanks to Mrs. Staggs’ caregivers who loved and cared for her the last two years of her life – Betty Sherman, Linda Wright, Lisa McNeely, and Mae Roznovsky.

Funeral will be 2PM Tuesday, September 2, 2014 in the Regency Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Tom Strike officiating. Pallbearers will be J.P. Golding, Phil Brumley, Hamp Williamson, C.M. Phillips, Jim Paul Franks and Gene Stafford. Burial will be in Tulip Cemetery at Tulip.
