Rev. William Rivera Barriel, Jr., age 65, of New Paltz, NY, passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2014, at Orange Regional Medical Center, Middletown, NY. He was accepted at Mt. Sinai Medical Center and he was awaiting transfer for a liver transplant when he passed.
Born on May 5, 1949, in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, he was the son of William and Blanca Rivera Barriel, Sr. He married Anne M. Kelder on December 8, 1984, at Amazing Grace Church in Newburgh, NY.
At the time of his passing, William was the Pastor of Remnant of Jesus Christ, Apostolic Faith Church, New Paltz, NY and a retired job coach at Occupations Inc., New Windsor, NY.
William attended seminary school at The Amazing Grace Church through a correspondence course sponsored by The Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. He was ordained in 1989 in Rochester, NY, at The New York State and Ontario Council of The P.A.W., Inc.
One of his favorite pastimes was cooking and enjoying meals with his family, friends and parishioners. He enjoyed tropical fish and keeping his tank which he was proud of.
In addition to his wife, Anne M. Barriel, New Paltz, NY, William is survived by his children, daughter, Glaries Lynnette Barriel, Ocklawaha, FL, daughter, Blanca Michele Barriel, Lowell, MA, son, Daniel G. Barriel, New Paltz, NY, son, Joshua A. Barriel, New Paltz, NY, son, Nathanael Jordan Barriel, New Paltz, NY, daughter, Rachel A. Barriel, New Paltz, NY, sister, Magaly Barriel, Middletown, NY, sister, Myrna Barriel, Middletown, NY, seven grandchildren, Richard Pierluissi, Ocala, FL, Lynnette Pierluissi, Ocklawaha, FL, Anthony Emmanuel Barriel-Pagan, Zahara Nichelle Pagan-Barriel, Xiomara Miosoty Pagan-Barriel, Angel Rafael Pagan-Barriel, Luis Daniel Pagan-Barriel, and two great grandsons, Anthony Emmanuel Barriel-Pagan Jr. and Zayvein Thy Barriel-Pagan, Lowell, MA.
In addition to his parents, William was predeceased by two brothers, Rene and Victor Barriel and a grandson, Luis Alberto Barriel Pagan who died on January 12, 2002.
William liked to read and study the Bible and religious materials. He was a member of Apostolic World Christian Fellowship, and Apostolic Pentecostal Assemblies International.
Friends and relatives may call on Thursday, September 18, 2014, from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm at Copeland Funeral Home, Inc., 162 South Putt Corners Road, New Paltz, NY. The funeral service will begin at 10am on Friday, September 19, 2014 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at New Paltz Rural Cemetery.
