Deep regret was felt in Alnmouth at the sudden death yesterday afternoon of
Mr A. J. L. Plunket, of Seaview, one of the most prominent residents who formerly
lived in Newcastle. Mr Plunket was confined to the house with a cold yesterday,
but was going about apparently in his usual health on Sunday.
An active Conservative, Mr Plunket was a member of the Council of the
Berwick Divisional Association and Hon. Secretary of the Alnmouth Branch of the Association.
Until recently, he was vice-chairman of Alnwick Rural District Council.
He was a member of Lesbury Parochial Church Council, a member of Alnmouth Parish Council,
and was one of the best singers in Alnmouth Choral Society, of which his
late wife and his daughter were also members.
Mr Plunket was a keen sportsman, playing regularly on the Foxton Golf Course,
and was fond of angling and of shooting. His wife who died two and a half years ago,
was before her marriage, Miss Mary Calvert Swan, a half sister of
Captain Ernest Swan, of Newbrough Park and a
daughter of Colonel H. F. Swan of Prudoe Hall.
