Patricia Ann Benjamin

Patricia Ann (Jones) Benjamin, of Evans, GA, died peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on December 15, 2014. She was born to parents Daisy and Allen Jones, Sr. (who both preceded her in death) on November 3, 1953 in Iberia Parish, LA.

Patricia was a loving, caring, and compassionate woman who embodied the principles of strength, dignity, grace, and service to others. In addition, she was a generous person who constantly put the needs of others before her own. Patricia was always ready and willing to help anyone in need of support. She possessed both an inner and outer beauty that endeared her to those who encountered her.

Patricia's beautiful spirit attracted HMC Melvin G. Benjamin, Sr. (USN/Retired) to ask for her hand in marriage in 1972. They were stationed in various parts of the U.S. for 20 years. During that time, Patricia transferred her culinary talents and artistry into a career in food service management until her retirement in 2005. The couple had settled down in Pensacola, FL from 1986 until Melvin Sr.'s death in December 2010. Since early 2011, she split her time between GA and SC to spend more time with her 2 children and 3 grandchildren.

Patricia was a family-centered woman. She was their heart, soul, and shining light. She loved to laugh, travel, and have fun with those around her. Patricia was considered a wonderful blessing from God, especially by her son and daughter. She was not only their mother, but also their very best-friend. Patricia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, in-law, and friend who loved unconditionally, and provided unwavering support in both good times and bad times. She will forever be missed, but always held near and dear by her loved ones. Patricia believed in forgiveness, and was spiritually guided by her Catholic faith.

Patricia is survived by her daughter, Dr. Tanya M. Benjamin-Wilson and son-in-law CTNC (USN) Shawn L. Wilson of GA; her son, GySgt (USMC/Retired) Melvin G. Benjamin, Jr. of SC, and his children Geron, Melvin E., Karicia, & Lisa (hon.); siblings Mary Joseph, Leona (& Walter) Robertson, and Allen (& Dorothy) Jones, Jr., all of LA, as well as siblings Dalton (& Pearline) Jones and Linda (& Edward) Antoine, both of TX; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and close friends.

Patricia was also preceded in death by her oldest brother, Alvin Williams, Sr.; nephew, Alvin "Rocky" Williams, Jr.; and brother-in-law, Clyde Joseph, all of LA.

Patricia requested cremation in lieu of funeral and burial services. The arrangements will be provided by Platt's Funeral Home in Evans, GA. The family wishes to thank everyone who cared for, prayed for, and provided loving support to Patricia and her family during her illness and after her passing.
