William George Lahnen, 85 years old of Portland, N.Y., passed away after a brief illness late Saturday evening, Jan. 24, 2015.
He was born on Aug. 16, 1929, in Laona, N.Y., to the late Harry Lahnen and Mar- jorie Clark. He has been an area resident for most of his life. After graduating from Fredonia High School he attended Grove City College in Pennsylvania. Bill was first employed for Ehmke Well Drilling and then worked at Great Lakes Color Printing for 33 years until his retirement. He was a member of St. Dominic's Roman Catholic Church of Brocton, N.Y. Besides his family, Bill had a great love of traveling, having visited 49 of the 50 United States during his lifetime.
He is survived by five sons: William G (Nancy) Lahnen II, of Lakewood N.Y., Steven (Debra) Lanhen of Brocton, N.Y., Kevin (Debbie) Lanhen of West Seneca, N.Y., Patrick Lanhen of Brocton, N.Y. and Thomas (Tammy) Lanhen of Silver Creek, N.Y.; one daughter, Sharon (Terry) Abram of Brocton, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; one stepsister, Barbara Weeks of Alabama and one stepbrother of Florida.
He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Janet whom he had married on Feb. 12, 1949, and who passed away on Sept. 29, 2013. One son, Charles E Lanhen who passed away in 1993, and one grand-daughter Christina Lehnan. who passed away in 1987.
Interment will be at the Portland Evergreen Cemetery.
