Robert was born September 9, 1921 in Ludington, Michigan to Edmund and Josephine Daron and graduated from Ludington High School.
Robert served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was assigned to the aircraft carrier, USS Kitkun Bay, seeing duty in the South Pacific. He served with distinction and was awarded a Purple Heart for his valor.
In 1944, Robert married Gladys Heglund in Coronado, California, where he was stationed. After his naval service was completed, he joined Jackson Vibrators Co. located in Ludington, Michigan. In 1964 Robert moved with his family to Lawrence, Kansas as the Field Service Representative for Jackson Vibrators Co. In 1966, Robert transferred to California, and left the Jackson Co. in 1970 to join the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit district. He continued with them until his retirement in 1987.
Robert and Gladys enjoyed traveling, bowling and spending time with their family. Robert enjoyed baseball, from Little League to the Majors and was a member of the San Jose Slow Pitch Fun League. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren's athletic activities.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard.
In addition to his wife Gladys, he is survived by his four daughters, Diane Hathaway (Lawrence) of Traverse City, Mi., Sue Herrmann (Brad) of San Jose, Pat Story (Mike) of San Jose, and Christy Daron of Deer Park, as well as two sons Bill (JoAnn) of Meridian, Idaho and Tom (Yvonne) of Sunnyvale, his sister-in-law Helen Daron, his thirteen grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held at St. Francis Episcopal Church 1205 Pine avenue San Jose, CA 95125 on Saturday, Oct 18th, 2008 at 4:30 p.m.
