Homer Saylor Sr., 81, of Louisville, died Sunday, March 2, 2003, at Norton Southwest Hospital.
He was a native of Harlan County, KY, a decorated war hero of World War II, with several commendations and a Purple Heart. He served with the 3rd Infantry under General Patton. He was also a retired bricklayer and coal miner.
He was preceded in death by one son, James Edward "Jimmy" Saylor.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Saylor; seven sons, Homer, Jackie, Jerry, Ricky, Mike, Mark Douglas "Dougy" and David Saylor; one daughter, Virginia Podkrajac; 30 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by four brothers and four sisters: Hubert, Harold, and Harrison Saylor and Virgil Ward; Goldie Curtsinger, Oma Zimmerman, Nanny Ward and Jeanette Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at family-owned Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Hwy., with burial in Bethany Cemetery, 10917 Dixie Hwy. Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. Wednesday and 2-9 p.m. Thursday.
