MONTGOMERY, Ohio, Jan 21 -- The remains of former United Press foreign correspondent Mary Lamar Knight McConnell were to be sent Monday from Ohio to Atlanta for interment later this week.
McConnell died Wednesday at the age of 97 in Montgomery, Ohio. She served United Press in Europe and the FarEast, and was the first female correspondent for the Scripps Howard News Service. McConnell wrote for the Reader's Digest, and wrote an autobiography. She was married to William Felton 'Mack' McConnell, who preceded her in death. The Atlanta native will be interred alongside her mother and sister at Westwood Cemetery in Atlanta. McConnell 'was very much of an extrovert,' said Ernie Ramos Jr., her lawyer and guardian for 10 years.
