OAKLAND, MARYLAND – Jesse W. Powell, 76, of RD 3, died Sunday in his home.

Born in Fincastle, Va., April 27, 1910, he was the son of the late Emmett and Elizabeth (Wright) Powell.

Mr. Powell was a retired engineer with the Western Maryland Railroad. He was a Navy veteran and a member of the Baptist Church.

Surviving are his widow, Ethel A. (Houser) Powell; one son, Boyd K. Powell, Cumberland; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Janet Camp, Tampa, Fla.; three stepsons, Tom Houser and Jack Houser, both of Oakland, and Robert Houser, Pelzer, S.C.; five sisters, Mrs. Katheryn VanFossen, Salem, Va.; Mrs. Dorothy Boothe and Mrs. Mary Lou Barnes, both of Baltimore; Mrs. Carrie Dillon, Fincastle, and Mrs. Wanda Folden, Blue Ridge, Va., 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received in the Stewart Funeral Home Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted there Wednesday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Donald Matthews and the Rev. Eugene Matthews. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery.
