Carol Haddock Danford of Shallotte died Thursday, October 8, 2015.
She was born in Brunswick County on January 3, 1939 the daughter of the late Leo and Ruby Russ Haddock. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Jerry Danford.
Mrs. Danford owned and operated Shallotte Insurance Agency for over 30 years. She established the business in 1971 and operated it until her retirement in 2005. She was elected to the Atlantic Telephone Membership (ATMC) Board in August 1977. She was elected to represent District 3 and was the first female director on the cooperative’s board. Mrs. Danford was elected Vice-President of the board in 1982 and was elected President in 1986. She served in that position until 2004. Mrs. Danford served on every board committee during her tenure as a Director of ATMC. Mrs. Danford was an integral part of this board for over 30 years.
Surviving are her son, Jeremy Danford of Washington, DC; daughters, Pamela Hardister (Shawn) of Atlanta, GA and Lee Anne Danford of Wilmington, NC; brother, David Haddock of Shallotte, NC; sisters, Shelby Harvey of Alexandria, VA, Pat Tripp (Malton) of Riegelwood, NC and Debbie Stanley (David) of Bolivia, NC; grandchildren, Matthew, Jennifer and Elizabeth Hardister; numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 2:00 pm in the Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel by The Reverend Landis Lancaster. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Shallotte, NC.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and at other times from the residence of her sister, Debbie Stanley of Bolivia, NC.
