Elizabeth “Betty” Sutton 88, of Fernandina Beach, FL passed away peacefully at her residence on Sunday November 22, 2015. Born on March 20, 1927 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin she was the daughter of the late Simon and Helen Rainer. In 1943, she met a young sailor named Bill at the Roof Ballroom in Milwaukee. They married secretly one weekend and she became a war-bride. Bill always said, “I lost the Battle of Milwaukee”. In July 1946 and, at age 19 with a two year old in her arms, Betty bravely left the only world she had ever known and flew in a small prop plane to join her husband in Fernandina Beach. They bought their first and only home together in 1951 on Florida Avenue. Betty spent the rest of her life as a homemaker and raised their three children in this lovely home. When not cleaning or caring for her family, she could be found curled up with a good book. She was a faithful member of St. Michaels Catholic Church. She loved being involved with the annual Catholic Christmas Bazaar as the pie booth chairman and enjoyed her time spent with the Ladies Auxiliary at Baptist Medical Center in the gift shop. Above all, she loved her family. Her favorite pastime was being with her family at holiday & birthday gatherings. She always brought the dessert, and everybody's favorite, German Chocolate Cake. In recent years she would be found on Saturday with her family cheering on the Gators, especially her all time favorite, “Timmy” Tebow. She is preceded in death by her Husband William I. “Bill” Sutton; her sons Billy and Donnie Sutton and her daughter, Carolyn Price. Mrs. Sutton leaves behind her Sister, Roslyn Rainer of Milwaukee, WI; Grand-daughters, Buffy (Joe) Spillane of Fernandina Beach, Nancy (Kevin) Roberts of Fernandina Beach, Jennifer (Jimmy) Easterling of Ponte Vedra, Sarah (David) Dolyak of Tampa; her son-in-Law, Randy Price of Orange Park and daughter-in-law Sherry Sutton of Fernandina Beach. Nine Great-Grandchildren and several Nieces and Nephews. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5-7PM with the Vigil Service at 6PM at the Burgess Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00AM, Saturday, from St. Michaels Catholic Church with Father Jose Kallukalam officiating. Mrs. Sutton will be laid to rest with her husband and sons at Bosque Bello Cemetery. Floral tributes are appreciated or memorials may be made to Community Hospice Children's Care, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257.
