R & B Singer. Co-founder and baritone singer for the Motown group "The Originals." The group was formed in 1965 and consisted of Freddie Gorman, C.P. Spencer and Ty Hunter. They are best remembered for the songs "Baby I'm For Real" and "The Bells," both co-written and produced by Marvin Gaye. Prior to joining _The Originals," Walter was a member of "The Five Jets" on the Deluxe label from 1953-54; "The Five Dollars" on the Fortune label in 1957; "The Five Stars" on several labels from 1957-58. He recorded as part of "The Voice Masters" on several records on the Anna label beginning in 1959. The group included Henry Dixon and Ty Hunter,later of "The Originals,: David Ruffin and Melvin Franklin, later of "The Temptations" and songwriter Lamont Dozier. The label was owned by Anna and Gwen Gordy, sisters of Motown founder, Berry Gordy, Jr, and Roquel Billy Davis, a frequent songwriting partner of Berry Gordy, Jr, prior to the founding of Motown. The label was absorbed by Motown in 1961.
