Polish writer. He traveled the countryside to collect folk legends and fairy tales documenting these exactly as they were told to him by local peasants in Eastern Poland and White Russia. He is credited with saving these literary gems that date back to primitive times. He often was published in English under the pen name of A.J. Glinski. "The Frog Princess" is part of the collection of traditional folk tales that he first published in 1862. The stories were written rhyming prose that can be associated with the ancient ballad. The obvious likenesses between these and the folklore of Germany, the Celtic nations, or to the Indian fairy-tales can be easily recognized. A collection of his "Polish Fairy Tales" has been translated to English by Maude Ashurst Biggs. Today, his fairy tales are still in print and can be found online for download or available for Kindle, hence shared with readers around the world.
