Ruth C. Witmer Lark was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan where she attended schools and Davenport College where she majored in business. After college she worked as a bookkeeper on Mackinac Island for Arnold Transit Co., and Edison Salt Electric. In 1933, she married Durward Lark on Mackinac Island. They made their home on there until 1938; at that time she and her husband moved to Petoskey, Michigan.

In Petoskey Mrs. Lark also did the bookkeeping for the Perry Hotel, and for her husbands business. Afterward, she worked for the Circus Shop in Petoskey. Besides her business career, Ruth was very active in the Girl Scouts and the First Christian Church. She was survived by her husband, a daughter and son, and one sister in Florida.
