Mrs. Edith M. Thompson of Centerville, MD, entered into eternal rest on Sat., Feb. 28, 2015. Born Jan. 20, 1922, in Harrisburg, PA, she was the daughter of William and Edith Onley Hubbard. She was raised by her grandparents, Frank and Janie Onley. She was married to the late George A. Thompson, Sr.

Mrs. Thompson was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. She retired from the National Geographic Society after many years of service. Mrs. Thompson had many interests. Down through the years, she enjoyed singing and playing the piano. She wrote poems and recited poetry. She was very creative and loved decorating. She loved nature, the splendor of God's beauty. She will be remembered by many for her lively sense of humor.

Mrs. Thompson is survived by her son, George A. Thompson, Jr; daughters, Arlene Wims (Earl), Rev. Carol Roache (Rick), Edith Diane Manual (Wilson), and Tylise Thompson; 12 grandchildren (including Jill Thompson, whom she raised); 16 great grandchildren; and 9 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by stepdaughters, Joyce Thompson and Doris Thompson; son, Steven Thompson; granddaughters, Sherry Wims and Kisharn Thompson; and great grandson, Quincy McCarther.



Services will be held on Friday, March 6, 2015, at Wayman AME Church, 9940 Liberty Road, Frederick, MD, with public viewing beginning at 9 a.m., the family receiving friends at 10 a.m. and the funeral beginning at 11 a.m. Rev. Ronald P. Simmons officiating. Interment will be at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 4010 Ijamsville Road, Ijamsville, MD 21754. Additional info can be found at www.garylrollinsfuneralhome.com.
