Appointed a patrolman in 1919 and served at the Washington Station until his transfer to the pistol range in 1936. Two years later he was named range chief, a position he held until his retirement in 1958. He was the author of a 21 page booklet outlining safe firearms handling techniques for rookie policemen.
Survived by two sons, Clarence G. and Donald E. Nichols; brother Hayward Nichols, sister Mrs. George Noesan.
Funeral at the Sieck and Mast Funeral Home. Burial in Elmlawn cemetery.
