Joseph K. Sheldon died May 10, 2014. He was born August 12, 1926, in Moscow, Idaho, and was raised in the Boise Valley. He graduated from high school in Kuna, Idaho, in 1944.

Joseph served in the US Navy during World War II, in the Pacific Theater, and was on the first troop ship that carried American forces from the Philippines to Nagoya, Japan.

After the war, Joseph worked for Idaho Power where he was awarded the Edison Institute Medal for saving the life of a fellow worker. Joseph graduated from Washington State College, now University, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked for Boeing in the aerospace division for 38 years. He was a life associate of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Joseph married Virginia Ragsdale, his wife of 62 years, on December 29, 1951, in Seattle and together they had two wonderful daughters.

He volunteered with King County Juvenile Court System, counseling first-time juvenile offenders. He was an elder in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and a member of First United Methodist Church in Bend.

Joseph was preceded in death by his father, mother and his only sibling, a brother.

Survivors include his wife, two daughters, a grandson, cousins, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held May 29, 2014, at 2 p.m., at First United Methodist Church in Bend, OR.
