Frances Walton

Born: May 11, 1929
Died: February 20, 2011

Frances Walton, 81, of Taylor, passed away on Sunday, February 20, 2011. She was surrounded by her family at her home.

Frances was born in Italy, Texas on May 11, 1929 and moved to Taylor in 1973. She was the daughter of the late Santiago and Cleofas Romero of Taylor, Texas.

Frances was a graduate of St. Mary’s Catholic School in 1947 and later attended Seton School of Nursing and graduated in 1953 where she met Bill Walton, who was stationed at Bergstrom Air Force Base in Austin, Texas. They married on April 16, 1953. They later moved to Hopkinsville, Kentucky where Frances worked for many years at Jenny Stuart Hospital. Bill and Frances, along with their twelve children, moved back to Texas in 1973. Frances continued her nursing career at John’s Community Hospital (currently Scott & White Hospital) where she provided patient care and served a number of capacities including staff nurse, nursing supervisor Labor & Delivery, Charge Nurse and ICU Nurse. Frances was well respected by her peers and appreciated by her patients for her compassionate care.

Frances was a kind and loving nurse, but understood what it was like to be the “patient” after undergoing dialysis treatment for the past eight years due to complications from diabetes. She was on the receiving end of the many acts of kindness shown by the staff at the Scott & White Dialysis Clinic in Round Rock.

Frances is survived by her husband of 57 years, Bill Walton, 7 daughters: Julie Walton, Mary Ancira and husband Jesse, Kathy Rojas and husband Carlos all of Taylor, Anna Matoska and husband Rodney of Thrall, Gloria Romero-Hutchison of Highland, Indiana, Susie Arrendell and husband Kent of Celina, Texas and Jackie McCoy and the late Michael McCoy of Thorndale. She is also survived by 5 sons: Bobby Walton, Joe Walton and wife Cathy, John Walton and wife Taffenie, and David Walton and wife Esther, all of Taylor, and James Walton and wife MaryAnn of Spring, Texas.

Frances is survived by thirty grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

The Walton family would like to thank Sandy Dickens, the Scott & White hospice nurse who took care of Frances over the past 2 years.

Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Tuesday, February 22, 2011 and Rosary will be recited at 7 PM at Providence Funeral Home. Celebration of Life Mass will be at 2 PM Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church of Taylor. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church Cemetery
