Basil “Dale” Garrett age 80 went to be with Jesus August 24, 2014 after a lengthy battle with bone and Kidney Cancer.
He was preceded in death by parents, Zelda Gertrude and William Stevens Garrett.; Brothers, Larry Garrett, Paul Garrett and infant sister, Sylvia Jean.
“Dale” is survived by his wife, Carol; Sisters, Ella Gayle, Eleanor Spears, Janice Whitehead and husband, Wilson; Daughter, Patricia Smith and husband, Jim; Son, Paul Garrett and Stepsons, Gary Wahl and wife Dawn and Steve Wahl; 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
“Dale” was born in Shirley, TN., moved to Lenoir City, TN. and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951 serving for 4 years. After his honorable discharge he served 4 years in the U.S. Air Force Reserves and 2 years in the U.S. Army Reserves. After 32 years as a Machinist at Eastman Kodak Co. in Rochester, N.Y. he retired to Gatlinburg, TN. in 1988.
He loved hunting and fishing, but his greatest desire was to be an encouragement to his fellow Christians. Throughout his lifetime he served the Lord by bringing the young and the old to Sunday school on the church bus. Organizing camping trips, father and son fishing trips, helping build new churches in Fentress County, TN. and 3 churches in the Canadian Northwest. He enjoyed mentoring young preachers and preaching downtown Sevierville on the street corner.
The family will receive friends 5:30-7:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at Shady Grove Baptist Church-- 1995 Shady Grove Road Sevierville, TN. 37876.
A memorial service will follow the visitation at 7:00 P.M. August 27, 2014 at the church.
