Lucille Marie Pierce Hughes was the daughter of Daniel Webster Hughes and Sarah Alice Wyant. She was born in Franklin Township, Jackson County. In 1900 Lucille lived on the family farm with her parents, brother Harry, ger grandparents, her Aunt Emma and cousin Charles. Her mother died in 1903. Her family continued to live on the family farm.

Lucille married Thomas Hughes on July 16, 1919 in Athens County, Ohio. Thomas gave his occupation as pipe fitter and residence as Loraine, Ohio. Lucille gave her occupation as teacher and residence as Athens, Ohio. Both were born in Jackson County.

In 1930 Thomas and Lucille were living in Jackson City. Thomas was employed as a laborer for the steam railroad and Lucille worked as a clerk in a dry goods store. They had two children, Eileen L, 10 and Kenneth L, 9.

In 1940 the family still resided in Jackson City. Thomas worked as a trackman for the steam railroad. Both Lucille and Eileen were employed as sales ladies at the dry goods store and Kenneth was a salesman at a service station.
