A Daughter's Memories
Some of the things my Mom liked early on: She loved gardening, fishing and also loved the 25 years she worked for Houston ISD. I really saw her grow as a person during that time, she was going back to school for classes and loving it! She really liked all the ladies she worked with and the feeling was mutual.
My Mom has always been a very active person. In fact in her 60’s she could still do cartwheels (something which I’ve never been able to do). Needless to say when the opportunity came her way to join the local community centers she jumped in with both feet, not only joining the May Community Center, she also joined the Crosby Community Center, the Humble Senior Activity Center and the Kingwood Community Center! She not only loved going on trips but also enjoyed arranging and planning them. She was very involved in all the events that the centers held at the holidays and other times, it gave her so joy being involved in the community and being able to give back to the community at the same time.
My Mom and I had an arrangement that she would tell me when she was going on a trip or going to be at the center so I wouldn’t worry about her; but, occasionally, she would forget and after me calling her and calling her and getting no answer, my husband and I would go down to her house to check on her only to find out that she was not home! Then I’d check her wall calendar to find that she was on another one of her trips. Thank You Lord.
She was very independent, strong person and said what she thought.
I will miss her a lot.
