Memorial services held for Dr. Claude Alex Rogers Jr., 77, at Maria Immaculata Church.

A native of Weeks Island and resident of Houma, Dr. Rogers died at 9:50 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003.

Dr. Rogers was a graduate of Franklin High School, Louisiana State University, and Southern College of Optometry in Chicago.

He lived in Naples, Italy, and Greenwich Village, New York City, before making Houma his home. He practiced optometry with Dr. Harold Demmer.

He served in the U.S. Navy on the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown and was in five battles in the Pacific in World War II.

Dr. Rogers was also a member of the Rotary Club, PTA, Theta Kappa Phi Fraternity. He was an avid reader, traveler and enjoyed tennis.

He was also Catholic.

He was survived by his former wife, two sons, two daughters, two sisters, including Alice Rogers Fields of Houma deceased 2016, and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Claude Alex Sr. and Annette Alleman Rogers.

Dr. Rogers donated his body to the Louisiana State University Medical School.
