Raymond Leo Klaes, age 84, of Osage, Iowa, died Thursday, October 20, 2016, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center Hospice Unit in Osage, surrounded by his loving family.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in New Haven, Iowa, with Father Mark Murphy officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in New Haven.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. On Tuesday, there will be no visitation at St. Peter’s Catholic Church prior to the Funeral Mass.

Raymond Leo Klaes, the son of Ted and Mable (Quinn) Klaes, was born August 10, 1932, at his parent’s rural New Haven home. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in New Haven. Ray served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. He was united in marriage to Lorraine Schultheis in 1957 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage.

He spent his life farming and raising cattle near New Haven. Ray was a cowboy at heart and enjoyed his cattle trips out west. Family meant everything to Ray. He enjoyed spending Sundays with his family, often times playing football or riding horses. Time spent with grandchildren was precious to Ray.

Ray is survived by his wife, Lorraine of Osage, Iowa; ten children, Julie
(Dennis) Morrison of Osage, Iowa, Marlys Sindelar (Ed Beeson) of Urbandale, Iowa, Steve (Kathy Mason) of Marsland, Nebraska, Curt (Mary) of Osage, Iowa, Dave (Cindy) of Osage, Iowa, Kenny (Pam) of Hemingford, Nebraska, Lisa Round of Arlington Heights, Illinois, Jeff (Shari) of Riceville, Iowa, Eric (Angie) of Elma, Iowa, and Brad (Laura) of North Liberty, Iowa; 27 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Eugenia Wagner of Riceville, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothy “Dottie” Bensend; and grandson, Nick Sindelar.
