Found in The State 04 August 1929: Funeral services for Miss Erma Elizabeth Mixon, 15-year-old daughter of Mrs. William Shirley, who died Thursday while on a visit with her mother to Lexington, Ky, will be held at 11 o'clock Monday morning at the grave in Elmwood cemetery. The Rev. J. F. (Lupo?) will officiate. Miss Mixon had many friends in Columbia. She recently went to Belmont college near Charlotte. Her death has caused her many friends to be deeply saddened. Miss Mixon is survived by her mother and her father, J. Hampton Mixon, Jr.; by several uncles and aunts, and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Hampton Mixon of Charleston. She was a great-niece of Mrs. William Cordray and Mrs. J. M. Hook, both of Columbia, and J. Lee Smith of Albany, Ga. She was a granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. McCartha, who lived in Shandon.
